Protoman 3-D paper diorama

The Protomen are one of the best concept bands ever assembled.  Their first album is amazing and tells the story of Mega Man in a dystopian future.

Hatsune Miku 3-D and matted silhouettes

I created these silhouettes featuring the vocaloid, Hatsune Miku.  After cutting them I was so happy with how they turned out that I combined them in a 3-D piece.

Ninja Sex Party 3-D paper diorama

I came up with this idea for a 3-D paper diorama featuring Danny Sexbang and Ninja Brian from the hilarious comedy group, Ninja Sex Party, while driving to Taiyou Con.  My wife and I were listening to "Dragon Slayer" and this image popped into my head.  I tried to make Danny and Brian as intense as possible while making the unicorn as doofy as I could.

Hatsune Miku 8x8 3-D paper diorama

At Taiyou Con I will be selling this mini 8x8 version of the Hatsune Miku design that I used for my convention poster.  The original design was made for an 8x10 frame and I didn't think that shrinking the character down by 3 inches would make the details super fine, but I think I pulled it off.  I also included two pictures I took while making her to show how tiny her fingers are!

FLCL (Fooly Cooly) 3-D Paper Dioramas

My favorite show of all time is the 6 episode long anime, FLCL.  I first saw it in college and I've watched it countless time.  Each time I watch it, I notice more and more.  These two 3-D paper dioramas feature Naota holding Haruko's bass guitar after the climactic battle.  And yes, I watched the entire series when making these pieces.

This 8x8 piece is made of five layers each separated by 3 layers of illustration board for an extreme 3-D effect.  I hid the Takkun, the cat, in the top layer and I added the Medical Mechanica building to the bottom layer.

This 6x8 piece features a larger Naota in one layer which is raised by three layers of illustration board.  It is a combination of my silhoutte and 3-D diorama work.

Hatsune Miku 3-D Paper Diorama

This 8x8 3-D paper diorama features the Japanese vocaloid Hatsune Miku.  I'm really happy with how her hair wraps around her and how you can see the details of her dress through the detailed cuts in her hair.  It gives the figure an energy reminiscent of her stage performances.

Music themed paper crafts

"My daughter loves music."  From that sentence, I developed the plans for this 8x8 piece.  Just like the Wonder Woman piece, I curled the paper to make her hair flow.

This 6x8 AC/DC piece was commissioned by a coworker who loves the band.  I based it on a combination of their Stiff Upper Lip album and concert footage.

This 6x8 original piece was commissioned for a baby's room.  Rock and Roll themed nursery?  ROCK ON!

This 6x8 Scorpions piece was my first venture into negative space.  It reminds me a lot of H.R. Giger for some reason.

This 8x8 Smashing Pumpkins piece is my take on their Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness cover.  It made the perfect Valentine's Day gift for my wife.

This 8x8 Taylor Swift commission is my take on her Speak Now album cover.  It was commissioned by a coworker for his daughter after they went to one of Taylor Swift's shows.
